Let’s Have a Conversation Today
Storage Containers
Good morning, what happened last night? It was a mess down where my hiding hole is. Mine too Pete, not sure what happened, but it sounded really bad, and it was not about the homeless, that is all I know for sure. Yeah, it had me on pins and needles, I could not move and could sleep, fear of discovery and certainly could not get up and take off, tough night. Conversation this morning? Yes, of course, we need it to start our day and keep minds from turning to total mush. And today, what do you have for us Oh, just wait until everybody gets here, friend.
Well, how did you three banded together before ending up here, interesting, did you all get interrupted by the shenanigans of last night as well? Yes, the police were all over the place looking for that young man after he did his foolish stuff and we were trying our best to stay out of sight and out of the way, no sleep and no rest. We knew it had been bad, but not that much bad, what did he do? Bad accident, many were injured and several dead from the injuries. Is he in jail? Yes, finally.
Okay, enough about all that junk, Pete, rescue us this morning, take our minds to a different place as you always do when we are having coffee in the morning. With pleasure, because this one is going to stump y’all totally and completely and real good today, so drink up and get ready, here are some snacks and let’s go. Pete, have a little mercy today. Barb, we need to shake off last night, so just buckle up for the ride and enjoy.
Okay, two words, two words, ready, here they are, Storage Containers! What are you thinking about this day Pete? That makes no sense to even us who are used to your weird and strange topics in the early morning hours. Storage Containers are the Solution! Okay, I am glad you told me to buckle up, the ride is going to be bumpy this morning, you have not had enough coffee. Storage Containers! The answer that America needs right now, right now, and in this hour of crisis!
Pete, I am settling in for a good and interesting ride this morning, please take center stage and start us off into your fantasy world of Storage Containers. Thank you kindly, Billy Bob, it is not a fantasy world, it could be reality, but nobody wants to see the answers, the solution potential. Container Homes right now are a trend in the housing market for those who want a different style, an eco-friendly style, and something that not everyone has. Wait, hold on, you mean the big, ugly things we see on trains and on the ships that come into ports all the time. Yes! But, totally refurbished.
They come with insulation, windows, electricity, and even some plumbed for water, that means they can be used for housing! What a minute, that ugly thing out at sea can be retired and re-made into a housing unit for folks like us? Yes, they come in all sizes, 10 feet to 30 feet in length, and can be set up for housing, long-term or short-term. But those that say no and are all stuck up and stick in NIMBY what would they say to a container home? Who knows, but hopefully they would not be dumb enough to say no to something that is a good and safe bet for alternative housing. Wait a minute, Storage Containers for housing, Pete, really? Yes, really, think with me outside of the box, or, or outside of the Container!
Come on guys dream, think big for a moment, alternative housing, housing that maybe could go where regular housing and shelters cannot go. Maybe a trend could start to help slow if not stop the rising numbers of homeless, especially among the old ones. Pete, the old ones worry me, they don’t have the defenses and resources that we have gathered over time, a shelter for them would be amazing, they do worry me so. Hey, let’s not forget our veterans, like the nation has, they need help too and maybe this could help them too, something they could use and finally feel safe again. Johnny Boy, you think well, politicians cannot think that well.
Pete, where do you come up with these ideas? I mean out of nowhere and left field, you just drop something that is dear to us all and no one out there in the real world is even thinking about this. Frankie, I am a thinker, I read and look up way too much stuff online and lately, I have been seeing a lot of container homes being built and of course, it got me thinking. But sadly, it is not a blip on the radar, for solutions are not on the government’s minds, we make them too much money. Yup, you are right.
Okay Pete, we now challenge you, develop for us, the best-case plan for Storage Containers to help the homeless. Oh, you are going to bring the challenge to me, I love it, sit down and get settled in, I thought you would never ask.
First, land, unused, away from homes and houses, and schools, but that land cheap and without disclosing what it is for. Then as quietly as possible get the zoning taken care of, sadly we do have to do zoning stuff, and that will be the hardest part. Get ahold of people, non-government grants, and donors, and start buying Storage Containers, of all sizes and dimensions. Then you get the help you professionally, lay in the bathrooms, mess hall, gathering areas, and cement pads, and get all that done. And of course you fence the place, protection for all. Then it is time to start landing the Storage Containers and setting them up, which is not a lot of work. Get the little bits of furnishing needed and up shop and get the people in there under general rules of behavior and conduct and work toward restoration back to regular life.
Darn, Pete, breath, breath, you have been dreaming, thinking and almost planning like it may become reality for us, wow! Goys think about it, the $200 million wasted nearly every year could go a long way in fully setting this up and running it professionally without the failures of the normal government shelters that always fail. Pete, where do you come up with such a number as that? Frankie, in every city, every county, and nationally, the money spent on supposed fixes, that is the tip of a giant iceberg.
I guess a Storage Container would not be a bad start for the road back to some sort of a life of stability for me, a door that locks, a bed to sleep in, coffee whenever I want it, and shower, a warm shower, Pete, I will bring your coffee in the morning, I like this day’s talk. Sadly, it is only a pipe dream right now, but maybe one day it will really happen, and we can work toward ending the skyrocketing numbers of people living and dying on the streets totally forgotten by society. Well, Pete, you did it to us again, and we thank you after a bad night, our minds have been shifted to thoughts beyond this mess called life, thanks.
Folks, thanks for joining us this morning, the Coffee Consortium certainly turned a bad night into a wonderful dream morning, but what if a dream could become reality for them? Solutions are possible as Pete always says!
