Let’s Have a Conversation Today
Billly Bob, I Ain’t Coming No More, I’m Scared
Frankie, you are here real early, what is going on? Billy Bob, I don’t think I am going to come anymore, I am too scared, they are trying to catch us like wild dogs and throw us away. Okay, slow down friend, what happened last night that has you so upset? The police, what else needs to be said? Come on Frankie, I can’t help if you don’t talk, okay? I will, let’s wait for the others, okay. Alright, friend, let’s do that.
Good morning, I think, it feels as if this may be a tough morning around here guys. Yeah, Frankie has a tough night and needs coffee, friends and treats. Well, we have that in spades today. Good, thanks guys. Morning guys, welcome, I am glad we all made it through another night, that are either getting shorter, or we are getting older and more grumpy one of the two. I think it is both and Frankie needs us this morning and we need to talk and sort this out with him and for him and maybe educate them housed folks at the same time. Alright settle in and let’s talk.
Frankie, what happened last night? Those darn housed folks just can’t leave us well enough alone, even when we ain’t bothering them, and I am so tired of it all. I was near to my nighttime spot, and was sitting there, in the deep shadows, bothering no one and this family walked by and noticed me, but I did not move or say anything. But I knew that they saw me, and I knew I had to move, so I did, not even 10 minutes later three cop cars showed up and were searching all over for me as if I was a high risk thug in need of shooting down in the streets. So, another night was lost hiding, ducking and staying out of sight and in fear and not getting any rest and I am just tired, too tired to keep this up much longer.
Frankie, no wonder you were so frustrated and mad this morning, I would have been to, why did that family have to go and call them cops on you? Wait, we cannot blame the family, we cannot be for absolute sure that they did, it is a great likelihood, but we do not do the blame game here, no matter how bad or how angry or night, right? Yeah, but it was so frustrating having my night taken. That is the trend now with all the new laws and the lawmakers demanding the end of street camping, no encampments, no homelessness, but offering no true, no real solutions, other than huff and puff garbage.
Frankie, what transpired between you and this family last night. I can’t tell you, I was just sitting there, hiding out as I always do before I dare go to my spot and bam, this family showed up, walking by. I was shocked, that area is not known for night walkers, or families, but I just sat there, quiet and still head down and watched from the corner of my eye, but I know that they saw me by the change in their pace. As soon as they were out of sight and well on their way, I got out of dodge and moved away, but where I could safely watch, and sure enough, cops were coming hard and fast.
Johnny Boy, what are some of these new laws that are increasing the patrols and the rate that we are getting thrown into jail? Well, it is a little complicated, but it boils down to this company in Texas that has been ‘helping’ states all over the place ‘reshape’ their homeless policies. That does not sound good for us. No Bill it is not. Their main thing is ending street camping at all costs and drive everybody into either treatment or 6 months monitored camping or jail. And the Supreme Court ruling went against the homeless as well, so we have been given the very short end of the stick recently. So, they have thrown away anything bent toward solutions for homelessness? Yup, that is the sum up of that Sally, no solutions.
Guys, this is why I am strongly thinking about disappearing for a few months, just going out into deep where no one will know that I am there, no housed folks to bother me and I won’t have to worry about the police raiding me at night when I am trying to rest. But, Frankie, you won’t have us to help, provide food, or be with you if there is an emergency, that is why we stick together even though it has gotten so tough. Mike, I am old, worn out and getting very tired. Unless this nation makes a radical shift back to its biblical heritage soon there will be no changes that will help coming anytime in our lifetime. Darn that is dark Frankie. Truth can be Mike.
Hey, folks, it’s me, Billy Bob, let me break in here and bring a little perspective. Frankie had a close encounter of the wrong kind last night. We have all had them, but this was like the straw that is about to break the camels back. Could that family have just walked by, yes, but that is not the trend these days, we are feared, hated, and unwelcome in this nation and we are all feeling the pressure. Frankie is the one among us who is willing to express his frustration with the downturn of the government and it refusal to intervene for the homeless in an ethical manner. This is why he is ready to not quit, but to go away for awhile and just rest and hide and hope that the heat dies down and we can stop being scared all the time.
Frankie maybe reconsider for now, let us help you and maybe find a new sleeping spot that is totally hidden, and out of the way, I have one in mind that might allow you some good rest. You best not be thinking what I think you are thinking about Johnny Boy. Oh, but I am thinking just that, if it was good enough to protect her from that mad, crazy husband, it will keep you safe enough to sleep for a few nights without interruption.
Johnny Boy, that not only feels weird, but almost wrong, it is too soon, she just left us, how could I? This way, what would Barb tell you if she were standing here right now and talking to you? Johnny Boy, she would not say a word, she would knock me up beside the head and tell me to grow up! Good, then it is settled, you will move today.
Well folks, thanks for hanging in there with us today and with our conversation that was all over the map. It is tough when our little bit of sleep is stolen for reasons beyond our control. The police are mandated to do a job they are not trained to do and often do not enjoy doing and it is one that torments us as well. Whether the family actually saw Frankie or not, it is the theme of so many encounters lately we can safely believe that it happened, and the natural course of events points to more and more of the same. America is in tough times and the true test of the greatness of any nation is how they treat their most vulnerable! America may not be getting a passing grade, have a pleasant day folks.
