Hands-of-Comfort

A Word of Introduction to Simply a Re-Start

Today we are going to engage in a touchy subject, why touchy, because it hits the homeless is a choice on the head. If it is a choice, then why should they need a re-start?  If it is a choice, why is a re over important? If by their own free will they got into this spot, then why worry about beginning again?  But, let’s think back on our own lives, have then been 100% problem, trouble free?  By no means, so what is the difference?  We have had a safety net for our re-start.  We need to think setting one in place for the homeless to have a true re-start themselves.

Simply A Re-Start, No Pity Welcomed

The end result of the cycle of homeless is only one of three, as hopelessness sets in and the person is trapped and remains, a hand up is found and the person works their way out and back into society, or an end, opt out is found, the permanent kind…

Most of us have played the game Monopoly when we were growing up and there is one spot on the board no one wants to be in, the jail. Ending up homeless, no matter the circumstances feels like you have jail in that games jail with no ticket out and you just sit there and watch the game, AKA life go by.

How is it possible in this great nation that when one hits rock bottom that it is easier and supposedly more economical to keep them in the cycle of homelessness and poverty then to help one re-start their life?  This nation rescues the children in Africa, they rescue puppies and kittens by the 100’s, they protect frogs, trees, fish, and plants at great expense, but humans in need of a hand up to re-engage life, nothing is there that really works!

We all know of quick sand, how the more that you move the more that you are trapped and the more likely you are to be stuck beyond retrieval. That is the homelessness cycle!  No shelter system is in place to truly deal with this problem. As you engage the parts and pieces of the institutionalized homeless system in this nation, freedom is not the answer that you will find.  Instead, you are stepping into quicksand, money making quicksand and the govern is happy to keep you, that is why no hand up to re-start your life.

The greatest breakdown has been one that came quietly and landed hard and then the pandemic pretty much finished it off. That is the church being in her rightful place to deal with and set in order the restoration of humans back to life again, but she lost that through government hook ups that were more important then doing the bible work, the good news, the gospel work.  Very sad. She had been our only true hope of the bridge out of the fark valley.

Most of us out here on the streets, the forgotten ones, the stereotyped ones, the ones who hide and live in constant need and fear simply want to get back to some level of stability and normal life once again.  Granted there are always going to be those rare few that make homelessness a lifestyle because of whatever reason, but those are few and far between.  Most shelters are built as handouts to bandage us through one crisis period to the next, few if any exist to help us build a bridge out and back into society once again and that is what we so desperately want.

See some have been injured on the job, some have had accidents that left them disabled, some are chronically ill, some suffer mental health issues, many others their jobs left to go offshore and there is nothing left for them.  But this does not mean that they want the streets as a lifelong home, they want to re-engage with life, is there no one who can get us that needed hand up so we can get out of the cycle?  Yes, the hand outs are great for a time and a season, but not for years on end, the manna must cease one day, else we may choose to cease. Is there any one brave enough to say no to the government and willing to take a change for us, we can work, we can fight, we can stand, but not in quicksand.
